I have been a woodcarver for the past 20 years. For the last 15 years I have run the Oaklands Woodcarving Club at Lordshill, Southampton, with the help of two colleagues. This year our club celebrates its 30th birthday. We welcome carvers of all levels, including beginners, so if you fancy trying woodcarving, come along and meet the gang. There is no need to buy tools as the club has a comprehensive range for the members’ use. See our website www.oaklandswoodcarving.org.uk for more details.
My other passion is working with leather. I am self taught, which has involved lots of experimenting and plenty of mistakes! Using leather tanned with home-grown vegetables, where possible, my work is strongly influenced by Mother Nature. I combine her endless array of beautiful colours, which I try to achieve using natural fruits and vegetation, with different materials to create dramatic and moody textures. This results in unique, leather sculptures that have received praise from fellow leather workers across the world.
