Cheryl Phillips

Jewellery Designer

Sea, Sand and Dreams

I make jewellery with its heart and soul by the sea. My work is predominantly made from recycled silver cast in cuttlebone scavenged on the beaches of Sussex, Hampshire and Cornwall. It’s an ancient technique which produces unique pieces, each with a distinctive character and texture.

Working in rhythm with the seasons, I gather the cuttlebones as they wash ashore in large numbers in late springtime. Then I clean and dry them and work slowly through them to produce wholly individual and wearable jewellery.

Once cast, my work is honed (and often embellished) until each piece becomes visually pleasing. I aim to combine this quality workmanship with the feeling of a ‘can’t put it down’ find in a rock pool, or the fragment of a fossil that stirs something extraordinary in the imagination. My pieces are often a delight to turn in the hand too, as if worn smooth by the tide and with an undefinable sense of mystique.

All my work is made from 925 grade Sterling Silver and bears a UK Hallmark to guarantee its provenance.

My work is split between private commissions and sales via my Instagram account (50Beautifulthings) and I plan to launch a new website soon.
