While the June weather could have been warmer for visitors to the impressive Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, located near Romsey in Hampshire, those attending the Wessex Guild’s annual exhibition there were assured of a warm welcome.
A record 20 members took part over two weeks, offering top quality art and craft across a range of disciplines. These included glass art, paintings and prints in different styles, sculpture, illustration, textile art, jewellery, willow work, turned pens, photography, basketmaking, woodturning, printmaking and ceramics.
Alongside the display, some members demonstrated their craft, which was appreciated by the viewers. They were keen to ask questions and understand the processes behind the work.
Visitors were impressed with the standard of work and this was reflected in the highest sales ever at that venue for the Guild. Comments in the book included:
“Probably one of the best exhibitions that we have been to here at Hilliers!”
“Magnificent exhibition. Most impressive!”
“Wonderful exhibition – I could be several hundred pounds lighter!”
“Best exhibition for years. Wonderful fabric and glass art.”
“Amazing! Both to watch the machine work and observe the finished pictures.”
As artists and craftspeople, we relish the opportunity to show our work to the public and chat about our inspirations. Thank you to everyone who took the time to look round the show and support us with a purchase. Look out for us at Hilliers again next year!
