I am a textile artist and designer with a BA (Hons) in Textile Art and a Textile Design MA (Ed). I am inspired by narratives, memories, and journeys through life and often use my own memories. The expression of imagination, fragility, motivation, experience and determination unfold, with the aim of making the invisible visible.
I use a variety of mixed media, but predominantly thread, to meander through the fragile pathways of life. Printing, painting, hand stitch and free machine embroidery are a few of the techniques used.
My work has been exhibited in London, Birmingham, Harrogate and, more locally, in Winchester Cathedral. I am influenced by historic and contemporary art and find it exciting and rewarding to motivate the wider community about textiles. Recently I developed the concept of ‘Gathered Memories’, exploring and creating this project with students from the local Peter Symonds College and four invited artists, and developing links with the Theatre Royal in Winchester.
I am a Full Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and an Embroiderer’s Guild selected Graduate. I belong to two textile groups and a local art group. My broad experience of 32 years as a nurse before taking early retirement is reflected in my work.
I am available for talks, commissions and workshops.
