I have been making mixed media mosaics for several years, using traditional glass tiles, combined with beads, glass, stones, wood, metal, fossils and semi-precious stones, etc.
Each piece takes many hours to make – sometimes as long as 200 hours, but I find the process totally absorbing.
I’m inspired by the world around me, and also by the materials that I use. I have a vast collection of beads and stones etc, and just looking through them will often be the catalyst for another piece.
No two works will ever be the same, as the elements I use are often one-of-a-kind pieces that may be antique or rare.
I’m always experimenting with different media to give texture to my work, and most pieces have raised, highly textured surfaces.
I also make jewellery by the same technique, using rescued pieces of vintage or antique jewellery to create a unique piece.
I have previously shown my work in: Stourhead National Trust Gallery, Dorset; Rum’s Eg Gallery, Hampshire; Cockington Court Gallery, Devon; Fisherton Mill Gallery, Wiltshire; Obsidian Gallery, Aylesbury, and the Made in Bradford on Avon Gallery, Wiltshire.
